Throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October 2023, “einevonACHT.” (“one of eight”) by dasBUUSENKOLLEKTIV e.V. was on show in the gallery, opening on 30 September. The title refers to the fact that one in eight women in Germany is diagnosed with breast cancer in the course of her life.

On show were “colourful body prints and black sculptures on the subject of breast cancer”, as the local neighbourhood site Kantkieze reported. The association describes the exhibition as autobiographical: it is about the diversity and beauty of women’s bodies after a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. The plaster busts show what remains invisible from the outside – tumours grow differently in every breast.

“einevonACHT.” was conceived as a touring exhibition and started in the gallery. It was then shown at the Charité, at the National Center for Tumor Diseases in Heidelberg (November 2024 to January 2025) and at the Innovationstag Brustkrebs in Düsseldorf. More at dasbuusenkollektiv.de.
